Who?

Who?  Not the band from back in the day. Not the World Health Organization. It’s a question that we often ask throughout the day. Who is it?  Who did it?  Who was it?  And I could go on and on with who questions. But the question “who” was asked by Jesus two times with two very different answers. One of those answers is the most important answer you can ever give.

Who?  That was the question that Jesus asked his disciples. First He asked them who other people said He was. “Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’” - Matthew 16:13. We hear all sorts of answers when we ask the world who Jesus was. Some say He was a great teacher, some say that He was a good moral example and some say He was just a fictional character that was made up by man to fill a religious void.

But that was not how the disciples answered the question by the response of what the people of their day thought. “And they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’” - Matthew 16:14. Their answer was that the people thought Jesus was one of the very important historical figure of Jewish history. Even though they were all incorrect.

Then the most important question ever followed right after their answers, “He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’” - Matthew 16:15. He asked this question of those who knew Him best. Those that had spent both night and day with Him.  It’s the question that will be asked of those that stand before God.  “Who do you say Jesus Christ is?”  What will your answer be?  That He was just a good teacher, a good man or a fictional character?

Simon Peter jumped right in with the correct answer because he knew who Jesus was. “Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’” - Matthew 16:16. Jesus was, and is, the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God. That is the answer to the most important “who” question in life. The answer you give will change your eternity. There is only one right answer to the question of who Jesus is: the Christ, the Son of the living God!

Have a great day and God bless.
