Sticks and stones. You know how the rest of it goes, “they may break our bones, but words will never hurt us!” I remember that was our parent’s advice they gave us when bullies use to pick on us. They lied! Words do hurt and most of the time they hurt worse than physical scars.
Proverbs 18:21 says that “death and life are in the power of the tongue”. What a true statement that is ( everything in the Bible is a true statement). The words that come out of our mouth have such power on the people that we are speaking them to. They have the power to build up or they have the power to destroy.
How do we speak to those around us: our spouses, our kids, our friends and our co-workers? Do we think about what we say and how it is going to effect them before we let the words come out of our mouths? Are we always sarcastic in our responses and is the other person taking it as sarcasm or are we killing them with our words?
Or words are the most powerful things we have. We speak about 5000 of them a day. Are they being used to edify others? James wrote “but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.” - James 3:8-10.
Have a great day and God bless.
