Many of the politicians lining up for the next election are offering all kinds of free stuff too: free healthcare, free college education and a whole slew of other free things. Only catch is that someone has to pay for it: the taxpayers. All of those things that are advertised as free really aren’t when you pull back all the layers of the onion.
The greatest free gift is the gift offered by Jesus Christ. The free gift of salvation. There is nothing you have to do to get it, there are no works great enough to earn it. It’s free! “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 6:23. The free gift of eternal life offered up through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
That free gift of salvation also cost something too. It cost Jesus Christ, the Son of God, His life. It was a cost He was willing to pay because of His great love for us. “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8. It’s free for us but cost Christ His life. It’s the greatest free gift in the history of the world.
Have you received this free gift? “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” - Romans 10:9. The free gift is there and available to you, all you have to do is accept it by faith. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth.
