Freedom

Freedom. Independence Day has always been my favorite holiday. The parades, the cookouts, fireworks and it always involved playing baseball. It’s just an all-American holiday. I have such fond memories of this day being a day of fun and family. The whole nation, town by little town, came together to celebrate our independence from Britain all the way back in 1776.

I used to love teaching this subject to my students. The Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights. It was such an unprecedented time not only in America, but in the history of the world. A new nation set upon Christian principles and governed by the people.

Even though this was a major event in the history of the world in which America declared it’s freedom from Britain, it wasn’t the most important event in world history in regards to freedom. The thirty-three years that Jesus Christ spent on earth and His death, burial and resurrection was the greatest event in the history of mankind. It is the only event that brings true freedom to us as individuals.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” - 2 Corinthians 3:17.

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” - Galatians 5:1.

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” - 1 Peter 2:16.

Enjoy living in the greatest country in the world today and celebrating our Independence Day. Have a great day and God bless.
