Alarm clock. The best thing about Saturday mornings is that no alarm clocks go off on that particular day in our house. Monday through Friday it goes off to jolt me out of my peaceful sleep to head off to work. Sunday it goes off so that we can all get up on time and head out to church to worship God. But Saturday, no alarm clock needed (most of the time).
Due to being woken up routinely during the week, my internal alarm clock usually wakes me up about the same time on Saturday mornings anyway. Some Saturdays I can roll back over and get some extra sleep, but most of the time my body says it’s time to get up and use the restroom. The body gets so used to a routine that it will keep it no matter if there is an external alarm or not.
God has given us an internal alarm clock, not to physically wake us up, but to spiritually wake us up. The Holy Spirit is our internal alert system to keep us in tune with the expectations of God. It alerts us to things that aren’t right externally and things that aren’t right internally. It’s that uneasy feeling you get in situations that you know aren’t where God wants you to be. The Holy Spirit works the same way internally when we are thinking of sinning against God’s Word.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” - John 14:26. The Holy Spirit is not only our alarm clock but is also our teacher. As we read God’s Word, the Holy Spirit helps us to learn the truth and apply it to our lives.
This internal alarm clock called the Holy Spirit is only possessed by those that have accepted Jesus Christ as their own personal Savior, He is not present in unbelievers. Do you possess the power of the Holy Spirit? Have you been saved by the redeeming work of Jesus Christ? Only then will you know the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.
Have a great day and God bless.
