Risks

Risks. Are you a risk taker?  Do you see something that looks exciting and just go for it instead of thinking it through and analyzing all the pros and cons?  I was driving to work this morning in the normal amount of traffic and all of a sudden this guy on a motorcycle comes flying through traffic like we were all standing still. He was going between cars, passing on entrance ramps and weaving between lanes like he was in some sort of race. I thought to myself, “this kid is going to get killed if someone changes lanes and don’t see him”.   He was taking some terrible risks with his life.

Most of us probably would never participate in something as risky as what this guy was doing, but we all take different levels of risks through your lives. What we consider risky may not be risky at all to someone else, we all see risk differently based upon the possible outcome. There are people that over analyze everything and will never take a risk in their lives. There are other people that won’t think twice about doing something and just go, worrying about the consequences later.

There are times in our lives when God leads us to take risks, or have faith, that what He is leading us to do is what is best for us. We may fully trust God and just go for it, or we may over analyze and miss out on the blessings of God. Not all risks are from God, it is our job, through the Holy Spirit, to make sure that what we are being asked to risk is truly from God. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” - 1 John 4:1.

God may ask you to witness to someone while you are standing in line waiting for a coffee. That may be risky for some people because they are shy. God may ask you to leave a profession and go into the ministry. That may be risky for some people because they have worked hard for the job they have. God may ask you to leave the country and become a missionary in another part of the world. That may be risky for some people because all their family and friends are here. Risk varies from person to person.

Know this, God will not ask you to take a risk that He has not already planned out for you ahead of time. He wants you to listen and obey in faith and take the risk to show others His glory. I think of the risk Abraham took taking Isaac up on that mountain to sacrifice his promised son. “By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, "Through Isaac shall your offspring be named." He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.” - Hebrews 11:17-19.

Have a great day and God bless.
