Negotiations

Negotiations. As we have started going through the process of buying a new home, the art of the negotiation has become a major aspect of the dance called home buying. Making an offer, having someone else make an offer at the same time, receiving a request to make our best offer, making a new offer and then being requested for something else. I have to be honest, this isn’t fun in the least. It is nerve wracking and frustrating at times. But, if we want a new house with more room, it’s something we are going to have to wade through.

Negotiating on a house is much different than our everyday negotiating because there is definitely more at stake. We negotiate in different ways every day, we negotiate with our spouses and our kids and we negotiate at work.  But, is everything negotiable?  The answer to that, in a spiritual sense, is “no”.

We are given this life by God to make the most important decision about our eternal life. We have a choice to either accept the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ or deny Him and accept the punishment we deserve instead of accepting that He paid the punishment of our sins. That is what this life comes down to: accept or deny Christ. That decision seals our eternal destination; either heaven or hell.

Many people are under the impression that they will somehow be able to negotiate with God when they stand before Him, making their case as to how good of a person they were. The issue is that there standard of “good” has to stand up to God’s standard of “good”. “As it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."” - Romans 3:10-12.

The Bible says that those who do not accept Christ in this life, will be resurrected to stand before God in judgement. God will judge the works of unsaved men and women. “And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.” - Revelation 20:12. Everyone’s name who is not found in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be thrown into the lake of fire.

We may be able to negotiate our way out of things in this life to gain the things we want, but we will not be able to negotiate our way into an eternal heaven with God and Jesus Christ. Where is your final and eternal destination going to be?

Have a great day and God bless.
