Doubt

Doubt. It’s hard to believe everything your hearAnd read in this day and age, especially if it’s on the news or social media. Yet, so many people are so quick to share stories that come out without giving it a chance to reveal all the evidence of the event. How many recent articles have had to be retracted because what was reported was not the full truth? It makes it very hard not to doubt almost every story that comes out anymore.

We all have different levels of doubt during the course of our lives. Even as Christians, we may go through seasons of doubt about our own faith and what we believe. Sometimes we are faced with difficulties in our lives that cause us to doubt if God really is who He says He is. We may come across questions that we cannot explain that may cause us to doubt what we believe. Doubt is a natural occurrence when we have to live by faith and not by sight.

The Word of God has been doubted for centuries. Even one of Jesus’ own disciples had an issue with doubt, and he was living in the very presence of the Savior. How much easier is it for us to have doubts living almost two millennia removed from Christ walking this earth?  I don’t think doubt is something only felt by non-believers.  I think it is something even we as Christians face at some point during our lives.

But what about those that doubt the truth of the Bible, can their doubt be overcome by the Holy Spirit?  Yes, because I am living proof of that. Almost weekly, a new story comes out confirming the accuracy of God’s Holy Word. New evidence is found about locations in the Bible that seemed to never have existed, only to be discovered by archeologists during their digs. Biblical leaders who have been questioned as to whether they have even lived or not have been confirmed in recent years. All things that help erase doubt that what the Biblical writers wrote is true.

“They will say, ‘Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.’ For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God,
and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.” - 2 Peter 3:4-7.

“And Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.’” - Matthew 21:21-22.

Have a great day and God bless.
